The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise
by Dan Gemeinhart
Five years is a long time to not go home. It’s also a long time to avoid the topic that pains both Coyote and her dad Rodeo.
But when spunky Coyote learns the park she holds dear is set for demolition, she’ll have to face five years of grief. On her journey from Florida to Washington State, Coyote faces the true meaning of life after loss, and the friends that help along the way.
Such a heartfelt and warm story. It did bother me as a whole that the story never touches the crazy that is Rodeo’s decision to drag his daughter across the country to avoid grief but it also is a very raw look at the undeniable pain grief causes. So I recommend this as a plan for parents handling grief, no. Do I think the extreme idea makes a great story? Absolutely.
