this was just incredible. the writing blew me away and the complexity of these characters is simply unparalleled! i can't even point to what made me love it so much because the whole of it wad just mesmerizing.

these characters... even those who aren't all that relatable (or likable for that matter) bring forth such interesting concepts that are explored to an appropriate extent while also leaving ample room for the reader to ponder on them further on their own.

the world itself and its magic system are so well thought out and established here. everything is extremely clear without ever feeling info dump-y.

this book is far from plot driven, but there is enough of an overarching goal to guide the story at a perfect pace while also allowing for slow thought-provoking moments that always left me wanting more.

it's hard for any one story to be absolutely perfect on all fronts, but i think this is about as close as one can get to it.
