I have mixed feelings about Fangirl. I think this book has pacing issues — the beginning is slow and the plot really only ramps up towards the end — but I still believe the characters carried the book enough to warrant a 4-star rating.

While not racially diverse or always politically correct (after all, the characters are mostly white and from Nebraska), they have a range of personalities and I enjoyed their interactions greatly. They felt like they could be real people, in all of their anxious, messy, and hormonal glory.

The romance subplot is well written. I ended up loving Cath and
Levi
as a couple. How they support one another and love each other despite their flaws is so wholesome.
