Coming of Age in Mississippi: The Classic Autobiography of a Young Black Girl in the Rural South by Anne Moody

How have I missed this book and Anne Moody in my education? This should have been required reading in high school. If you want an easy-to-read firsthand account of sit-ins in Mississippi and Louisiana and the the March on Washington from a college student in the thick of it, this is the best book on that matter I've read. Highly recommend. It's long, but never drudging.

I just watched a documentary on the SoCal music scene in the 60s and to think that the Beatles and Beach Boys were starting off right at the same time as this book takes place- we truly live in at least 2 Americas.
