When I read a book like this, I really understand the push for making sure everyone can find books that mirror who they are. I've spent my whole life reading books where the protagonists had the same skin colour as I do, but not so many about small-town lesbian Ontarians--no unschooled background, but still a pretty good fit--and it feels pretty good when I do find one.
