Deep End
by Ali Hazelwood
I have the mental capacity to understand why some readers may enjoy this book, but I am not one of them. Granted the only other book I have read by Ali Hazelwood was Bride, but I enjoyed that much more. Having read Deep End on audio I always wonder how much of my rating and feelings toward the book stem from the actual storyline or the audio narrator's voices. They weren't bad. The characters sounded much older than the college-aged characters which threw me off. I didn't feel for the FMC. She was clearly struggling with some issues that oddly were not resolved by her therapist, but by the MMC. For a young 20-something he seemed weirdly into psychoanalysis. The humor was odd at times. It wasn't always clear whether the FMC was saying things out loud or to herself. Friendships seemed odd with how willing some were to break up and pass on their ex to a good friend. Who does that?
Ultimately the storyline didn't captivate me, the spice was decent, but it wasn't enough to motivate me to want to read more. It was decent enough to finish, but barely.
