The Persistence of Thornes by Micalea Smeltzer
5.0
This was my first book by Micalea Smeltzer, and I enjoyed her writing style and storytelling. Halle was a great female MC. She had been through a tough time growing up and had taken custody of her twin 14-year-old brothers at the age of 23. She was determined to give them a better upbringing than her own despite having little herself. Caleb wants a great love of his own. After a divorce, he's moved back home to be near his daughter. When Halle moves in next door, Caleb is determined to help her family in any way he can.
I loved the friendship and bond that Halle and Caleb built while they were getting to know each other. It made their falling in love even sweeter. The way her twin brothers and Caleb's daughter fit in was perfect. The side characters were a ton of fun, too. I especially loved the two older women who lived across the street and became surrogate grandparents to the twins. This was a great small-town romance. I wasn't sure I would want to go back and read the duet that started this series because it seemed a bit messy, but now that I know Caleb's story I want to know more about the rest of the gang.
