The Seduction of the Crimson Rose
by Lauren Willig
The Crimson Rose and I did not have an easy time of it. I disliked Mary from the previous books, so while I thought Vaughn was perfect for her, and I was excited for the pairing, I was not fond of the cynical p.o.v.
It is, however, a good novel. The Eloise & Colin storyline was fantastic. It's well written and there are lots of interesting plot twists. And it's an interesting change for the reader, to put yourself in this mindset that is older and more jaded than what has come before.
Edit: the cynicism hit me differently 9 years later, as an unmarried 33yr (vs 24 straight out of college). I still hate that Mary’s basic response to perfectly nice people is to be mean. I know she had her reasons, but I still don’t agree with her.
