What would you do if the planet you landed on… started loving you back?
This book is three things; Thrilling, ominous and seductive.
The whole premise is that Earth as we know it is well past its expiration date and this planet that has been found is humanity's last hope, but everyone is ignoring the warning signs that things might be too good to be true.
All tests come back in support of human life, no predators, no diseases and no huge differences geographically, yet the big red flag is that a team of scientists already went there decades before and the mission failed with only one survivor.
I really think that Meg put so much detail and love into this when writing it because from start to finish it was beautifully written and stringing us along on one of the most sensual stories I’ve read in long time.
From the very beginning this was insane, and even though it got a little slow and repetitive in places I think that this was 100% intentional and only added to the way that the story was being told.
I mean that the characters were all losing sense of their own reality, time and self, that it made complete sense that the actual story would be told in a way that conveyed this to the reader.
Moral of the story? I couldn’t put it down because I’m sure it had me in some kinda trance.
The plot twist right in the last 10% was probably the most insane thing I’ve read in a long time. When I finished it I was just sat there staring at the last page gobsmacked that it was over and even more traumatised by all of the decisions that the crew had been making throughout the book.
I thought the best part was the slow build up to this huge plot twist. It was so masterfully done and took just the right amount of time to hit that even though I had a vague understanding of what was going to happen I was still blown away by it.
I think that the biggest thing that has me in awe is the fact that this is a novella because my guy this reads like a whole ass NOVEL!!
I simply can’t believe just how much they were able to pack into this book and equally how much they were able to unpack in it too.
Meg Smitherman has definitely become one of my auto buy authors because the work is always amazing to read!
