Absolutely stunning. I loved homegoing so I went into this with high expectations and at first I struggled with how different it felt to homegoing but as I continued to read on, it really burrowed into my heart in its own right. Yaa Gyasi can do no wrong in my eyes and this is another example of how beautiful and heartfelt her writing is. I want to sit with this and the quiet for a little longer. A beautiful and honest portrayal of wrestling with faith, science, racism, addiction, depression, immigration and family dynamics. The way Yaa folded all of these topics into one book so lovingly is mind blowing. It never felt like it was a topic too many, it just felt like life. Transcendent Kingdom is written almost like a stream of consciousness and the form really worked here. Incredible and I will carry it with me for a very long time. Will definitely pick this up again.
