The Fill-In Boyfriend
by Kasie West
This story follows Gia, a girl who is worried she’s losing her closest friends to another girl who’s “infiltrating” her friend group. To prevent this, she needs them to think she’s not lying about her new boyfriend. But then they break up the night of prom, and she drags a nearby boy into being her fake boyfriend.
Of course, you can see how this could lead to some problems down the road.
The premise of this story started off silly, and definitely unrealistic. But I honestly needed up enjoying the story. I knew that it was going to end with them together for real, but getting there was entertaining to see. I also appreciated that Kasie West made it so that the “mean girl” in the story sort of had a reason to be mean, but I felt that explanation was lacking a bit, also with the girl that “fake Bradley” is apparently in love with. Who is that mean???
At the end of the day this was a cute story about a girl who finds that the friends that she’s always had may not be the ones that accept the real her.
