The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson

Not quite so impressed with this book as I was with the first, but still enjoyed it very much. The ending was especially satisfying, seeing all that setup and payoff and how everything just clicked together. One thing about Sanderson's slow-burns is that they make the ending climax that much more powerful since we've been simmering in the tension for so long.

I also like how many of the elements from the first book were still very present in this one, such as the log book. And information from the first book was key to resolving the mystery of the second book. It makes the series feel continuous and interlinked, and I suspect that rereading it will be pretty fun since it'll be full of hints for things to come.

My critique from the first book about the lack of subtlety still stands in this one. I swear, if they had made one more comment about Vin's dress-wearing dilemma, I would've stormed out of the room. We got the message the first time, it was actually a pretty good message, however the charm started to wear off once it had been repeated 20 times from 4 different POVs.
