The Fran Lebowitz Reader by Fran Lebowitz
3.25
lighthearted medium-paced

Read this after watching Pretend It´s a City, and there were some parts I found enjoyable. A lot of the cultural referenses are dated- not just as in "problematic" but as in just, not relevant, hard to understand for those of us that weren´t there. One or two of the texts were more in line with what I was expecting; funny as heck and sharp, in particular "The primary cause of heterosexuality among men in urban areas: yet another crackpot theory" (what a title!), "Diary of a New York apartament hunter" and "Fran Lebowitz´s travel hints". Anything she writes about Los Angeles is utterly hilarious. It certainly is an intersesting book as a casestudy of a specific time and place, and for anyone who is a fan of Pretend It´s a City it is worth a read, but you might need to filter through a lot of it to get to the good bits. It is a book worty of reading, though maybe not of buying.
