I was so excited for this book that I forgot that I requested it at the library and pre-ordered it as well, so wound up with 2 copies!
The first thing that stood out for me was the fact that Mark and Louise's mother was involved in a Christian Puppet Ministry. It's such an oddball thing, but one of my best friends grew up making puppets and using them in her mother's CPM. I immediately told her about it, and she was delighted to have something so random referenced in a novel that she may be checking it out, despite her aversion to horror.
This book was so much fun though. It was really hard to put down. I related to Louise and Mark's relationship, especially since Mark reminds me a bit of my brother. I loved the scene with the squirrels so much, it almost seemed like something out of Evil Dead. Of course the reference to Nightmare on Elm Street made me so happy as well.
Really though I don't have a lot of specifics to say about this. The way the story twisted with each new bit of information kept it moving quickly, and it was infused with the author's sense of humor throughout. This is my favorite read of this year so far (although I'm only on my 9th book), and almost reaches We Sold Our Souls for my favorite Grady Hendrix book.
I really need a picture of Pupkin now though, so this might get me drawing again soon!
