The Empty City
by Erin Hunter
Originally, I read this book in high school but wanted to re-read it where I could continue and finish the series. I loved it as a teenager and I love it now, too. Lucky, the lone street dog has to find his way in the world that has been devastated by a major earthquake known to canines as "The Big Growl". Used to being on his own, Lucky originally sets out with Sweet the "swift dog" female before she returns to her pack, leaving Lucky alone once more. Oh, how Lucky's life changes dramatically after that! :) A pack of Leashed Dogs aka pets find Lucky and their leader is revealed to be Lucky's littersister Bella. Bella, Bruno, Mickey, Martha, Sunshine, Daisy, and Alfie follow Lucky and he tries to mold them into wild dogs even though each dog cannot bear to part with the belonging from his/her owner's house. Mickey and Martha are my personal favorites; they are such loyal pack members and want to help the others in every regard possible. This was definitely a charming re-read.
