A River Enchanted is a slow paced comfort read that honestly, I enjoyed a lot. Getting to know the population of Cadence has been a joy. We meet Jack, a bastard that simply longs for a place to belong and initially thought he found it in the mainland away from his Isle of Cadence. After being called home by his Laird (the head of his tribe), he learns that it's not his laird that calls him home but his Heiress who calls him home and that his mother gave birth to another child in the time that he's been gone .
Rebecca has a wonderful talent of creating unique worlds and her ability to write about love and all that comes with it..... second to none. With all that in mind, I still could not bring myself to believe or care for the development of the main couple. To me, it mainly felt like they got together because the plot wished that for them, I could not believe in their love. The secondary couple however, they were wonderful and everytime they were at the forefront, my heart filled with so much love like... amazing.
The Plot twist at the end of this novel, cliche but phenomenally done because I did not see it coming. While I had long suspected thatJack's father was from the west , Adi being 100% Western was not something I saw coming.
The magic system is also another thing I adore of this world, magic with consequences is always my favourite kinda system, especially since we must acknowledge that the spirits operate on a different pane from the rest of our cast. So the fact thatthe west can weave enchantments but at the cost of their food.. fantastic stuff
