The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren
4.0

I received an advance copy from Edelweiss and I'm FINALLY reviewing this.

I've read Roni Loren's more explicit and intense romances, so this was pretty straightforward (no sex clubs here), but it was still a good read. Liv and Finn are some of the survivors of a school shooting, but their real story of the shooting is the secret they've carried for twelve years. When they come back to town for a documentary interview, the sparks between them are still there, but this time they're not sneaking around during senior year.

What I liked: the way that they both dealt with the trauma and ongoing effects of the shooting-- I feel like this is going to be something we see more in fiction as the generations who are growing up with this reality begin writing. Liv having female friends.

What I wasn't super into: I felt like... it needed more? of something? The emotional journey between the characters is there, but there's almost nothing about their families or how it affected them, or how Liv's dad might react.

I'll recommend it, and I've already downloaded the next two books, but I'm not sure I'd buy this on my own.
