Oh my godddd this was everything!! I really wished that that was my first fantasy book instead of...a certain one. The way every small mundane detail is taken and magnified and cast into the fantasy world is insane. Everything is just starting so I'm excited to see the set up for further books.
All the characters were so flawed and so real it made me root for all of them. And by chapter 15 or so, adam had my heart when it was mentionedthat his father abuses him and i cried a little
I particularly love how the disparity between gansey Ronan and Adam are all shown but it's not the stuck up rich boys even though, yes they are rich, and privileged as compared to adam, they don't have perfect lives. Also how they showed more of the outside time spent with blue rather than at aglionby school.
The way gansey is written! Gansey does so much for everybody and finally at the end when heretrieves adam from th hospital and they fight, he thinks he's nobody to adam and Ronan but they mean so much to him, I also cried a little then. And that makes so much difference! Gansey tries to help them both but to adam it always seems like pity and i love love love how everyone was written, there is no right side, and I can see everyone's side, and that makes for so much more realer characters.
I honestly never expected this much characterisation in a book with teens plus as a fantasy book, I always assumed you can either only worldbuild or do amazing characters and you have to compromise on something.
