American Predator: The Hunt for the Most Meticulous Serial Killer of the 21st Century by Maureen Callahan

3.0

Spares no detail or gory description, to the point where it made me legitimately uncomfortable once or twice. The interview transcripts are really what make this worth reading. The audiobook narrator does a great job imitating Keyes' slimy arrogance. The case that got him caught is definitely fucked up, and the author doesn't shy away from it. In my opinion, she also downplays the potential victim count -- she vaguely alludes to the fact that a lot of cold case investigators (professional and not) really want to connect Keyes to old cases, but doesn't get into how many potential matches there actually are. Overall, I think the author goes too far in a few spots, but certainly wrote a compelling and horrifying story.
