This historical fiction novel, written by Eve Chase, was published 13th July 2017. I was originally drawn to this book because of the beautiful front cover, then when I read the synopsis I was hooked.

Being a true historical fiction novel this story jumps from the 50’s, where we learn about the Wilding’s mystery, to the present day as Jessie struggles to move her family into Applecote Manor. I felt that this was a genuine story with no cliches, honest characters and infused with tension and suspicion in both the past and present. Each of the characters has their own struggles and imperfections which makes you relate to them even more. I personally liked Bella’s storyline and thoroughly enjoyed watching her story unfold.

This book has a lot to offer and definitely worth a read, even just for the picturesque Cotswold setting. Be warned though, the minute you pick this up you won’t be able to put it down. I found myself holding my breath as the book neared its conclusion.

This is the first of Eve Chase’s that I have read so I will definitely look up her debut novel, Black Rabbit Hall. I thank NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book. I also thank Eve Chase for creating such a beautiful and gripping story.
