Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse: "outwits the Phantom Blot" by Floyd Gottfredson

4.0

Floyd Gottfredson is definitely one of the great Disney master artists and this volume showcases his prowess of design and layout. The Phantom Blot story is clearly the highlight of the volume. The other stories are good to awful in terms of storytelling and cultural appropriateness. There are some truly abhorrent racial caricatures (it's hard to imagine a time when these depictions were acceptable) in some of these stories. Nevertheless, there is a lot of humor and adventure here if you can overlook the ethnic stereotypes. The bonus material is rich in historical information about Gottfredson and his contributions to the Disney legacy.
