The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

4.0

I loved the first half of this book, but it lost its way a little in the second half, as with The Shadow of the Wind. It was beautifully written, and the plot was really interesting. I thought the concept was brilliant, ie., the task that David was given. I wanted to see that developed more. In the end (spoiler alert) it kind of devolved into lots of death and mysticism that never quite got resolved. I'm not sure if Zafon knows how to 'close' a book, but he certainly knows how to open one. Perhaps if he could partner with another author, or a good editor, or something. It was a bit like 'Lost' - so much intrigue going on, but it wasn't tied together very well. Actually, I'm not really sure what happened in the end. A bit of authorial hand waving, and poof, the book ended with maybe an explanation.
