The Storyteller's Daughter: A Retelling of the Arabian Nights by Cameron Dokey
5.0
This book was a beautiful retelling of the classic Arabian Nights (One Thousand and One Nights). Personally, I have always struggled when reading older works, especially ancient ones that have been translated multiple times, I feel that this book is great for young or occasional readers that want to know the story of the original but finds it difficult to do so.
However, it is not a replacement of the original and is not a complete replica. The author does take the story and make it her own while maintaining the magic and the awe of the original. I felt I could understand themes and ideas of the original better from reading this.
Overall, I loved reading this story and couldn't put down this book the whole time. If you want a similar but unique story to the Arabian Nights this is the perfect book to read. I read this book because of a school project and I absolutely loved reading it and presenting this book to my class and professor.
