The Sheikh's Pregnant Prisoner by Tara Pammi

3.0

Lauren Hamby is searching for her lover, Zafir. In the fictional kingdom of Behraat, she couldn't take in the destruction wrought by the recent riots. In there with her friend David, she is at a loss as to what else she could do when she spots him in his country's regalia. And with guards? And for someone who appeared to be in such good health, why didn't he contact her in the past six weeks after unceremoniously dumping her in New York. And before she could do anything about it, she's put in prison.

Lauren is an ER nurse back in New York. On realising she's pregnant, she wanted to avoid Zafir but he gets a whiff of the situation and then starts the prison term, where she's kept captive in the palace. Both have been hurt in their childhood which colours their current decisions and actions.

Zafir Al Masood feels boxed in due to his royal responsibilities. The way he came to be the King, the spare, the bastard child; well the protagonists calling themselves nutcases pretty much sums it up.

A confluence (kinda) of the Middle East and the West, it sure had its usual clichéd parts. But Lauren working as a nurse, without seeking Zafir's permission, was so refreshing. And that is all there is to it because, for the rest of the story, she's as doormat as one can be in an HP story. Even when it is Zafir's fault equally, I didn't see him apologizing, only in his mind maybe. It's Lauren who has had to grovel, time and again, and she did just that. It was annoying for most of the part.

But some of the dialogue was very funny. And those are much needed after the emotional wasteland that are the pasts of both the protagonists.
Lauren hadn’t known whether to laugh or cry or take offense at being described as some kind of mouse who had unwittingly befriended a lion, and subsequently, transformed into an elegant deer?

This is the second book I'm reading by Tara Pammi, after [b:Crowned for the Drakon Legacy|31868043|Crowned for the Drakon Legacy (The Drakon Royals #1)|Tara Pammi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1481148863l/31868043._SY75_.jpg|52538721] and I don't know what to say anymore. It's like her books are as annoying to me as much as I love them. Am I even making any sense? Lol.
