The Reader
by Bernhard Schlink
Having seen the movie, I was already familiar with the story. The main character seemed so disinterested in his life and so detached from everything. He couldn't get his first love out of his head his entire life, but when faced with the prospect of seeing her again, he procrastinates until the last possible moment. He seemed like a weak character to me; in youth, he couldn't get over his lust for her, and in his adulthood, he couldn't face the person she really was. The story was good, but the main character annoyed me.
