Enjoyed this much more the second time I read it, but still not something I would rush to reread. Shelley is to be commended for her groundbreaking influence on the science-fiction genre with this novel, however. I find Frankenstein to be a wholly unlikeable character: he is incredibly selfish, but my sympathies do not lie with the manipulative monster either. The two characters that come out innocent are the two significant victims: Elizabeth Lavenza and Henry Clerval, the latter of which could've been used for even more breakthrough, instead of merely implying the homosexual relationship between him and Victor. This novel has an interesting plot, but doesn't always choose the best strands to develop.
