Instant Heat by A.K. MacBride

3.0

My first by MacBride …
This book starts out unoriginally, with girls in a bar, ganging up on /daring one to take home a random guy. I think we’ve all read/watched things with this very same beginning.

Book is 1st person POV, alternating between the FMC and MMC.
At times, we got the same scene twice, once in each POV; I could’ve done without this but I imagine many readers appreciate having the insight into both characters’ heads. (On the plus side, I was able to skip some of the chapters in the high-pitched female narrator’s voice & still know what was going on! Score!!)

This is an insta-love, extra stress on the ‘insta’, fast-burn, but I found the sex scenes to be a bit bland.

There’s a lot more inner dialogue than actual-dialogue, so for me it was rather slow-paced.

I tried to get into it but this was a DNF for me. Not bad at all—just not my cup of tea.

Note:
I listened to the audiobook. The female narrator’s voice is extremely high-pitched and the narrator has a very slow way of speaking. On the plus side, she’s nice and easy to understand. But if you’re subject to pain from sharp sounds, I recommend opting for the e- or print book. ;)
The male narrator has a deep, smooth voice and a hot accent, very pleasant.
