My 10-year old is a huge fan of this series, ranking it just below Eragon/Inheritance, and above Ranger’s Apprentice. I love genre fiction and enjoy YA sometimes, too—but I couldn’t get more than four chapters in. At first I find this difference mystifying, but really it’s great. He should totally love something I can not. At his age, I was rereading Oz, I think, and we both read Tolkien—this series is just something that is only his.
