Every one hundred years an island appears and the six realms rulers have to attend a competition to try to break the curses that plague each of them. This is the basic premise of this book and ultimately that is what made me want to pick up the books so if that premise sounds intriguing go ahead and pick this one up.

I personally loved this book because I feel like it brought all of the elements in a story that I just truly love. I love the idea of a competition and having to make alliances. This was one of those books that was really just my kind of book and I enjoyed myself immensely while reading it.

I enjoyed the characters and the flaws that each one possessed. I enjoy a story where the characters make me care about them even if they are doing things that I don't agree with. I think that each one of the main characters were well fleshed out, but some of the side rulers that we do not follow as closely are in my opinion very flat, but for me that didn't take away from my enjoyment.

I think that the plot was intriguing and kept me turning the pages. This is one of those stories where we are learning things with the character and I loved that about this story. Now I will admit that I am not very good at guessing the twist so when I say that the reveal at the end SHOOK me just know that I may have missed some of the signs because when I am as invested in a book as I was reading this there I am not trying to figure out thing I am just along for the ride. I enjoyed the way that this was paced and am excited to see where the story goes from here in book two.

If you loved things like Divergent and Daughter of Smoke and Bone this will be a story that you enjoy.
