The Book of Guilt by Catherine Chidgey

4.5

Chidgey returns to the holocaust again but this time in an out of time way the examine it without the weight of history. The alternative history allows an uncanny valley feeling where you’re not quite sure what you know and it asks if that changes your opinion on what is happening. She also keeps the propulsive and unsettling feeling that makes you want to keep reading that has been a key part of her last four books.

There are lots of ethical questions posed throughout, such as how close to you have to be to someone to care about them, but it’s all done in a light enough way you enjoy this immensely for the plot alone if you wanted.
