The Laughter by Sonora Jha

5.0

This was such a great book. I work in academia and laughed out loud at Jha's extremely accurate portrayal of academics (especially white, male, boomers) and life on a college campus. Oliver Harding was the perfect narrator (the most unreliable of all unreliable narrators), and Ruhaba was a character that I constantly wanted to learn more about. Even by the end of the book she was still such an enigma because we only know her through Oliver's telling. By about halfway through the book I had sussed out how it would end, but still audibly gasped at the climax. I would recommend this book to anyone who works in higher education and wants an accurate and unflattering portrayal of white, male hubris.
