The Wages of Sin by Alex Beecroft
4.0

This was a cool ghost story. It's genuinely creepy and quite Gothic in style--big country house, fog, ghosts, secrets, murder, stormy weather, strange relatives, exorcisms, and more. I really enjoyed this. Alex Beecroft is so good at creating an atmosphere and this story is eerie and dark. I do recommend reading the prequel story first, [b:Buried With Him|32717937|Buried With Him (Unquiet Spirits, Volume #0)|Alex Beecroft|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1477034987s/32717937.jpg|53299394], as it adds a lot of character detail and some background story. I love that this is set in the less-commonly-seen 1700s--everyone's hair and face are powdered and there's great details that really establish the historical setting. The writing is lush and detailed and vivid. The budding relationship is lovely and hopeful. I really like the cover. I'll definitely be reading the next book.
