War is the second book in The Four Horsemen series by Laura Thalassa. This is an adult romance series following four different women who encounter the four horsemen of the apocalypse. This second book follows the second horseman, which is War.
I read Laura Thalassa's Bargainer series which is a young adult paranormal and I really enjoyed that series. However, I absolutely adore this series. There's something about her writing I just love and especially her writing in adult novels is so raw and real, I love it.
War has to be my favorite book so far in this series and I've only read two. War is definitely my favorite horsemen so far (sorry Pestilence) and I really loved getting his story.
First off, this book takes place in the Middle East and I thought that was such an interesting choice for this book. I know that there has been turmoil there for pretty much my whole life and even before that. I am not as knowledgable in the wars and conflicts that happened there so I cannot speak to that aspect but I thought the setting choice was interesting. A small thing that Laura did in this book that I thought was great was that it mentioned that War was speaking in Hebrew to Miriam throughout the book.
I adored Miriam and War separately and together. I thought Miriam was such a badass lady and wouldn't take any shit from War. She stood up for herself, the human race and the people that War was hurting. She worked so hard to show War that, while humanity is flawed and can do evil deeds, there are good people in the world. War was very gruff and rough around the edges but I really loved seeing him grow and change as he started to realize what Miriam was saying. I thought their development was so well done.
The writing in this was just spectacular as well. It's a writing style that I fall into easily and can read super quickly. I flew through this book in less than a week because I was so hooked.
Overall, I loved this book. I am so excited to see what the next book, Famine has in store and where it's going to be set.
