Goldengrove by Francine Prose
2.0
This book was...strange. The characters, the setting, the plot...all of it was just weird. There's a grieving mother-turned-drug addict who whiles away the afternoons with her co-dependent best friend. There's a grieving father who spends most of his time writing about the apocalypse. And there's a grieving 13-year-old who enters into a very odd relationship with her dead sister's creepy boyfriend. Throw in snippets about a strange, autistic little boy and a group of people who anxiously awaited the second coming of Christ and you've got Goldengrove. And yet, oddly enough, I didn't hate it. I just didn't like it that much, either.
