Reader's Digest Today's Best Fiction: The Rosie Project, Six Years, Oath of Office, The Maresille Caper by Michael Palmer, Harlan Coben, Graeme Simsion, Peter Mayle

3.0

I think I had overly high expectations for this book. Everyone was telling me I had to read it because I have a family member with Asperger's syndrome, and so I did.

There are a lot of things to like about this book. The plot is fun and engaging. The character of Rosie is fun and feisty. And the book would make a great movie. (Surely movie rights have already been sold.)

The book's major problem, however, is its main character, Don, who seems to be channelling the voice of Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory. Yes, I enjoy the character of Sheldon Cooper -- when I'm watching The Big Bang Theory. But there's more than one way to act and behave when you're a person with Asperger's syndrome, so I expected Don to have his own distinct, non-Sheldon-esque voice -- and I was disappointed in this regard.

That said, this is still a very enjoyable book. I particularly enjoyed the afterword from the author, which explains the book's genesis and development. Fascinating stuff.
