Don't Cry for Me by Daniel Black
5.0
challenging emotional reflective sad medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This book put me into a minor reading slump and I loved it so so much for that. I loved how Daniel Black showed an intrinsically flawed Black father, who's writing letters to his son that rehash his tumultuous history in an attempt to reconnect. The father's journey of healing from intergenerational trauma brought me to tears, showing that despite his set ways, there is still ample room for growth for this character. While this book is on the shorter side, it still packs a heavy emotional punch, drawing readers through waves of anger and compassion for this character and his very messy life.

I would recommend this book to other readers but I would highly recommend buffering this book with a lighthearted and wholesome read!
