Monique and the Mango Rains: Two Years with a Midwife in Mali by Kris Holloway, John Bidwell

“People begin to dance, as they did the strangeness began to fade. I had never lived so close to death. Death here was not quarantined, something that only took place in slaughterhouses and hospitals, that only occasionally escaped in the form of car accidents, It was in every home, all the time. And for a person to have lived this long, in a place where life is frequently cut short, it was truly something to celebrate.”

Such an incredible piece. I really enjoyed this and will this about it a lot going into my service for the next two years.
