How Dare the Sun Rise: Memoirs of a War Child by Sandra Uwiringiyimana

challenging dark sad fast-paced

4.0

what she endures is the reality for a lot of children around the world, no child should have to see genocide, witness murder, or fight to live. She ends the book by saying "fighting for each other is the way we all win" which emphasizes how important it is to educate yourself on world issues
this was such an eye opening read, I can't fathom the things she witnessed and lived through.
She is a survivor of the Gatumba massacre and she writes about her trauma first hand and her and her families migration journey to the US. She also covers her own mental health issues as a refugee which was difficult for her to deal with since most foreign parents don't believe or speak about mental health
