It took me a bit to get into this one and even when I did I was having a hard time because it is a lot of tennis, which duh it’s a book about a tennis player, I know. Carrie can be unlikable in a lot of ways but I think that is pretty much the point. The misogyny and sexism displayed throughout the book is maddening in its accuracy for how people treat Carrie as a female athlete. Her relationship with her father was interesting to read and see evolve. I kept reading to see Carrie change little bit by little bit.
While I did anticipate that her dad wouldn’t make it through the book it was still sad.
I personally enjoyed the ending and I think it shows a ton of growth for Carrie.
