Tinfoil Butterfly by Rachel Eve Moulton
4.0
A great debut! Eerie, gripping, I flew through it!
We initially meet Emma our protagonist while she is currently hitchhiking to the badlands. But a violent altercation with her driver leaves her stranded in an abandoned town, in the middle of nowhere. In the town's diner she finds shelter and food and a little boy named Earl who lives in a tinfoil mask. He begs her for help and she then gets pulled into his bizarre and horrifying world. As Emma's time with Earl unfolds she also has flashbacks of her tragic, dark past and what had her out hitchhiking in the first place.
This book grabbed me from the first pages! I thought the story moved along really well and I enjoyed Emma's character arc.
Moulton wrote about family, trauma and addiction well and believably, and she did a great job representing the LGBTQ community. If you struggle to enjoy thrillers/suspense books like I do I reccomend giving this a go because it really worked for me! I had this on my shelf for over a year, @parisperusing first brought this book to my attention, so glad I finally picked it up!
