The Stand by Stephen King

3.0

I have lately started reading Stephen King and this is my third book of his after [b:Duma Key|1048926|Duma Key|Stephen King|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1347687994s/1048926.jpg|3041864] and [b:Carrie|10592|Carrie|Stephen King|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1166254258s/10592.jpg|1552134]. The Stand, compared to them, is much better.

To some, the horror element in this book might be the Captain Trips, but to me it was the way Stephen King described the collapse of the society following the virus. That, according to me was pure gem.

I have read the uncut edition, and to be fair to the editors, their apprehensions were correct. I have seen a lot of King fans rating this 5 stars, but in my opinion, this was a good read (i.e. 3 stars).

There were some moments that were just perfect, some were good, but I did felt that parts of it were not necessary and dragged on. Having said that, not once did I felt that I should stop mid way and start with another book. But I do think that the abridged edition might have been a better read.
