Thief (Tales of Nottingham, #1) by Savanna Roberts

adventurous emotional hopeful lighthearted fast-paced

3.5

A quick, fun retelling of the classic Robin Hood tale, Thief is a YA style book that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys retellings such as Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles or is looking for an easy summer read.

This book has a lot of heart, with delightful characters and interesting world-building, but it also has a lot of cliches and fluff throughout the story. Take that as you will, I personally can be a sucker for fluff. I would have liked to see Marion's character and motivations developed further, as she came across as juvenile and flat in some aspects, but overall this story was intriguing and I am curious to read the sequel!

One final note: the author wrote a disclaimer at the beginning of the book with trigger warnings, and while appreciated, I did find it unwarranted. While traumatic events did happen in Thief, they were not written in a disturbing or dark way. I would consider this book appropriate for anyone who is old enough to enjoy a novel.
