This book was incredibly hyped up online so I went in with high expectations. It ended up not being a five star read for me, but I still enjoyed the story overall. I liked the main character, Violet, and enjoyed watching her go from a timid, fish out of water type to a strong and confident lead. The love triangle and a few other plot points were a little too predictable and tropey. (Some almost to the point that it felt like copyright infringement on other fantasy series!) I will for sure pick up the sequel because I think the author has set the groundwork for a good series and I think she has lots of room to grow her storyline and her characters!
