A short novel filled with experimental sentence structure, beautiful language, and allegory. A short novel that packs a punch regarding it’s history, it’s characters, and it’s message of morality.
This Other Eden was perfection to me. I fell in love with every inhabitant of Apple Island (minus the evil-hearted Mr. Diamond, he can rot in hell); I fell in love with Apple Island, a character in itself. It’s worthy of the Booker longlist. Despite it being the first of the longlist I have read, I can say with confidence that it’s also worthy of the shortlist. Paul Harding taught a largely unknown history lesson in 220 pages. He taught it with beautiful language and lyrical sentences.
I want to read it again already.
