The Reapers Are the Angels
by Alden Bell
I both loved and hated this book. It is both intelligent and dumb. It feels very profound and yet is about nothing. You can tell a lot of thought went into this book, yet at the same time there is so much that is inexplicable - like literally everything still working (cars, electrical grid, etc.) 25 years after the collapse of society because of the zombie apocalypse. The zombies are...not frightening at all. They are, as described by the main character, slugs. They are slow and dumb and easy to outmaneuver. Yet they are inexorable.
I do take strong exception to the mutants - not zombies, but mutants. Their inclusion in this story adding nothing and was just dumb.
