Trombone Shorty by Troy Andrews

It's been awhile since I was reading Caldecott's so it's nice to be back to them. With this one I'm reminded that the range of Caldecott awards are much wider than just simple children's picture books with great art. This book is the autobiography of one musician, not someone I'd ever heard of. But with well executed vivid art and a higher level of language than I normally expect from a picture book, the author was brought to life. Almost made me want to listen to jazz.
