I did enjoy reading this book and am already on the second one! However, I found the twists to be predictable, even with a lot of red herrings. Specifically, of course the ridderak thing came from Cain, not Nehemia. Their names are very biblical, which seems to foreshadow their characteristics and motives.
I do like Caelena as a heroine and protagonist, and love her complexity of character. I think her past makes her actions and motives very realistic. Magic being a former presence in the story’s world leaves a lot for the reader to wonder about so I’m looking forward to reading more!
