The Wedding Ringer
by Kerry Rea
2.5 stars, rounded up bc it's a debut. The first half or so of this book is a solid 4 stars (by 10% anyway). The pacing was pretty good, the characters relatively interesting, the situation a little out there but fairly believable.
It started to go downhill at least by the bachelorette party, devolving into cheese and overblown drama. I started skimming when the tiny spark of chemistry the MC had with the best man somehow turned into obsession and a quick romp. There was so much focus on the friendship that I was way more invested in that than the guy whose name already escapes me, moments after I finished. That was somewhat disappointing, too. The situation with Maisie's family was super anticlimactic.
I don't know. This was just unsatisfying. I would maybe try this author again, but I'm still cringing over so much awkwardness from this that could have been endearing with a little more depth.
