I listened to this book in one day while at the beach, at 2x speed, so it took very little time. At first I thought it was going to be another book like the Calpurnia Tate books--lighthearted rural educational tome. Instead it was an engaging problem-solving book but then SO BLEAK! I was sitting there feeling assured that nothing really terrible would happen, even after Betty was _impaled_ in the shoulder, and then, suddenly, she died! And then Toby!? And basically in a suicide-by-cop, though of a different sort!? So sad! So unexpectedly sad!
