Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer

5.0

So, after crying over wild strawberries, shouting at the blindness of our human greed, and dancing in my mind to the beat of the drum while giving thanks for my existence, I am happy to say I came out of this book as a far more sensitively attuned person.

What a heartfelt ode to the beauty of our life, the abundance of nature and gifts from Mother Earth. I am enthralled and heartbroken at once. This book makes clear our loss of direction as a species and a shattering of our relationship to the natural world, and ourselves. Kimmerer shows us our loneliness and our man-made divide that makes us hurt and longing for a return to life as gift and not as a right.

Please, in your lifetime, read this book. I know I will be returning to it.
